The short version: A first squad succeeds when it can discover danger, survive contact, repair mistakes, and finish the objective.

The first mistake in squad strategy is selecting four versions of the same damage dealer.

Begin with functions. A protector creates safe movement and absorbs pressure. A scout reveals routes and enemy intent. An engineer repairs equipment, opens systems, or controls terrain. A medic preserves the mission after the plan meets reality.

Read the objective before the enemy

Extraction, rescue, sabotage, and survival demand different pacing. Identify the action that ends the mission, the conditions that can fail it, and the route back. Eliminating every opponent may be unnecessary.

Move for the next turn

Cover is useful when it protects the squad after the current action. Keep overlapping support, avoid exposing the only recovery unit, and preserve one flexible action for new information.

Debrief one decision

After the mission, record the first point where the result diverged from expectation. Change one loadout, route, or formation and test again. A repeatable adjustment teaches more than a completely new squad.
