The short version: A build improves faster when each run tests one named hypothesis instead of replacing the entire ship after every failure.

A new shield, sensor, weapon, and engine can rescue a run. Changing all four at once cannot tell you which change mattered.

Protect one baseline loadout. Record hull, modules, crew, difficulty, mission, and version. Name a hypothesis such as โ€œearlier threat detection prevents more damage than additional armor on this route.โ€

Change only the sensor package, then compare detection time, damage taken before contact, resource use, objective time, and failure point. Repeat enough times to separate a stable effect from one favorable encounter.

The result applies to the tested route and build. Do not turn one controlled experiment into a universal tier list.
